After the recent opening of the first Zara stores in Sydney and Melbourne earlier this year, the Australian clothing industry is set to continue its transformation with reports that international retailers Topshop, H&M, Abercrombie & Fitch, Uniqlo and Forever 21 are preparing an Aussie breakthrough in the near future.

The establishment of clothing giants such as Topshop and their surge of cheap and stylish clothes will have a huge impact on the Aussie fashion market, where local designers and independent boutiques are strong, compared to the European market for instance.

No doubt that the success of Zara’s opening in Sydney last April and Melbourne only weeks ago, has convinced multinational retailers that Australia is an undeveloped market where customers are eager to have access to cheaper and more diverse brands.

Whilst reports about most of these outlets are still only rumoured, Topshop has made it clear that its entrance on the Australian market is imminent and could occur as early as Christmas 2011...And with Australians being Topshop’s 3rd biggest online buyers, they have good reasons to hurry up.
